Are any screenwriting reps in Los Angeles working with multi-lateral client relationships?
Right now I’m my own screenwriting representation and making my own decisions - I've got nearly a decade of experience in film finance, and I know how to close deals. My first sale, XII, is actually screening at the Cannes Market while I write this. My debut short as a director is in post, and I'm receiving financing for a feature.
At the same time, I realize how many doors an agent could open for me, and I’d love to trade in my day job for genre storytelling.
My spec scripts represent a market gap that’s attractive financially, and they’re loads of fun to write. At the same time, the fact that their market is so clear means the direction of these films needs to fill a demand – it’s very clear cut. These movies will thrive in the right studio environment with the right production team, and I'm happy to sell them.
Production on the films I’ll be producing and directing myself will be more discovery-oriented, and I have the production and distribution relationships. Ideally, my representation would become part of my filmmaking family, and be able to contribute expertise and relationships to these projects too. As far as compensation, we'd need to work out alternative models - I'm financing these films myself, and there are no commissions to be made.
I tell great stories, and my market awareness is honed by years of connecting investment dollars with feature films. I take the right risks. If I wasn’t working for myself so much, I’d be everyone’s dream client. I’m looking for the kind of folks who actually want to work with me as much as I work with them.
Do agents and managers like this exist, and does anyone know them?
