So...  Tonight I find myself reckoning Cheap Noir for the first time, really, in about half a year.  For the first time I'm getting real feedback on the script, and it's from the very place I had decided not to expect it...  Interesting.

This collaborator has been, from the beginning, adamant that the mystery is broken and that the truth is obvious.  While many others have been broadsided by the ending, I'm completely open to making it stronger, and today we found an obvious place to direct the attention of the audience, that until now had somehow eluded me.  It's one of those situations where I'd come up with all these other reasons why this person was distracting and misleading, gone out of my way to make this person powerful and mysterious, when I have this huge loose end, this huge distracting plot point, that needed a home.

Walla.

Of course, this being a mystery, I won't be as forthcoming as I am with films like Receiver.  At the same time, I have a plan for some pretty major rewrites.  For those who have been following things, THIS IS YOUR EDUCATION demands immediate attention and of course Receiver is nearing completion and is almost ready to shoot.

It's an embarrassment of riches!  I'm pushing to finish both THIS IS YOUR EDUCATION and Receiver before the summer is over, certainly.  Looks like after that, I'm bringing the South African back.  I'm excited to see what happens!
